This rare and extraordinary lamp originates from before the second world war, and was produced by Körting & Mathiesen, better known as Kandem. This famous German lighting manufacturer was producing lighting fixtures since 1889, and held a strong relationship with the Bauhaus during the 1930s. Although Kandem was not known for its Explosion-proof lighting, they did manufacture a small variation of these heavy industrial fixtures.

Together with many other fixtures, the Armadillo was found on the attic of one of the storage buildings at the complex of a former East German refrigerator manufacturer. All fixtures found at this attic are considered very special pieces originating from before the second world war or just soon after. Most likely, they were stored here after they were taking down during a reconstruction of the premises, and must have been there for decades.

The Armadillo comes with a special 40 watt E27 deco-bulb, 1,5 meter matt black cable (measured from the end of the rod), and features a 50 cm steel rod. A passport describing its history and origin is presented with the lamp.
